Sustainability, Textile Reuse and Reducing your Design Footprint: Providing quality post consumer textiles from our resource library to schools and colleges to up-cycle as part of their programs promotes sustainability, social responsibility and ethical practice systemically, and offers a budget friendly creative solution to keeping fashion out of landfill. Our program includes educational classes and workshops on environmental impact, up-cycling, sustainability, zero-waste and circular design.
Retaining Hand Skills and Embracing New Technology: We reinforce the value of creativity through traditional sewing skills, pattern and dress making, deconstruction and reconstruction alongside lean manufacturing and small batch technology. We host classes within college curriculum, supplying textiles diverted from landfill from our resource library as raw materials. With the decline of creative classes in schools, the upswing of interest in green fashion and the importance of sustainability goals, we have found that designer, makers and artists fully embrace circularity, zero waste and up-cycling techniques, especially when they are cognizant of their environmental impact.
In 2019 we were honored to partner with the University of Texas at Austin Division of Textiles and Apparel on the largest largest student-run fashion show in the country, providing mentorship and raw materials to up-cycle for their Sustainable Wear collections. This year’s show, Matrix, featured 140 original designs from the collections of 28 students. Both fabulous and environmentally friendly, the pieces were geared towards sustainability. There is nothing more chic than helping save the planet!
