Carlsbad Oster is a passionate textile manipulation junky, and was an immediate YES from all of us as an Artist in Nesting! So much of the recycling and up-cycling process requires thinking outside of the box – and textile manipulation is a paramount part of that process. When Super Bowl 51 rolled through Houston early 2017, Magpies & Peacocks partnered with the NFL Sustainability Department to recover the post consumer textiles after the game. We collected around 2,500lbs of woven, scrim, vinyl and poly mix banners, fencing material and fabric signage to creatively reuse. Carlsbad was a natural choice to work with on this project and while we found many uses of the fabric it was Carlsbad who saw the potential of an athleisure wear collection in the piles of recovered material.
