Magpies & Peacocks are proud to have worked with Fashion Camp Houston for the last four years. Fashion Camp Houston inspires young designers with the confidence and courage to become the leaders of the fashion industry tomorrow, by teaching hand skills, industry networking and providing a fun and engaging tour of the business of fashion.
2016 Camp, directed by acclaimed stylist, vintage guru and our good friend Dawn Bell, was hosted at our warehouse in EaDo – where twelve teens and tweens were treated to a week long back-to-back crash course in fashion! With great 'art school' info from Kara Ellis of FIDM, rare tips, cheats and inspiration from celebrity stylist, designer and M&Ps resident artist Rene Garza Fine Art, essential intel on sustainability and up-cycling from Magpies & Peacocks (of course!), hands-on fashion illustration, design, sewing and construction with designer and Glassel/HCC educator Jessica McMahon, a studio takeover at Donkeeboy Screen Printing with acclaimed urban artist Alex Roman, and wrapping up with our student presentation and a behind the scenes tour of Houston Atelier Miles David with fashion designer David Peck and his team. Can you believe they had time to design their logo and make a garment too? What a great team this year!
We are already in planning for 2017 Fashion Camp so if you would like to participate, volunteer or attend let us know!
