We have tried to answer the most common questions but don't hesitate to ask.

Us & Our Products

Who we are, what we do, and why we believe in fashion as a force for good!

What exactly is Magpies & Peacocks? Are you a brand or a nonprofit?

We’re proudly both! Magpies & Peacocks is the nation’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit design house, dedicated to transforming discarded materials into upcycled fashion and supporting communities through creative empowerment. Every item sold supports people and planet.

💡 Did you know? The average American throws away 81 pounds of clothing a year. We're helping flip that stat one garment at a time.

What is upcycling, and how is it different from recycling?

Upcycling is the glow-up of trash, giving unwanted materials new life and more value without breaking them down. Think transformation, not destruction. Recycling turns old into new; upcycling turns old into better. We aim to achieve the highest and best use of our material!

💡 Did you know? Upcycling uses significantly less energy than recycling and keeps the original material out of landfills.

Where do your materials come from?

From places where fashion waste is born, closets, factories, industries, showrooms, theaters, stadiums and warehouses. We rescue textiles and accessories that would otherwise end up in landfill and give them a new life through thoughtful design.

💡 Did you know? We’ve diverted over 345 tons of material from landfill since 2011. That’s 60 elephants' worth of waste, saved.

Who makes your products?

Our pieces are made by the in-house team of designers and makers in our MAKR Collective Production department — but we also have a workforce development training program! The MAKR Collective Training program supports survivors of trauma, giving them creative and career-building skills in fashion and design, barista skills, and more.

💡 Did you know? Hand-skills like sewing are therapeutic and confidence-boosting, especially for those rebuilding their lives.

How do I know your products are really sustainable?

Because we walk the zero-waste walk. Every item is either upcycled, vintage, reworked, or made from rescued materials. We produce locally and ethically, no greenwashing, just green doing.

💡 Did you know? We track our material intake and output to ensure we're actually making a measurable difference.

Packaging & Shipping

How we get your goods to you—ethically, responsibly, and with as little waste as possible.

Do you ship sustainably?

We sure do. We use recycled, recyclable, biodegradable, compostable and minimal packaging, and say no to plastics. We also avoid carbon-heavy shipping options, because no cute jacket is worth a scorched planet.

💡 Did you know? Every Magpies & Peacocks order ships guilt-free, goodies inside, good vibes outside.

Where do you ship?

We currently ship across the continental U.S., and we’re working on expanding. If you’re outside our shipping zone, reach out, we will make it work!

💡 Did you know? Slower, consolidated shipping methods reduce carbon emissions compared to overnight air freight.

How long will it take to get my order?

Most orders ship within 3–5 business days. Since many items are one-of-a-kind or made-to-order, we take a little extra time to get it just right, but trust us, it’s worth the wait.

💡 Did you know? Fast fashion thrives on speed, slow fashion thrives on intention.

Do you offer Buy Now, Pay Later?

Yes! We’ve partnered with AfterPay, so you can shop now and split your purchase into four easy, interest-free payments. More flexibility, same sustainability.

💡 Did you know? Supporting ethical fashion doesn’t have to break the bank, conscious can be affordable too.

How do returns work?

Because most items are one-of-a-kind, we encourage mindful shopping. That said, if something isn’t quite right, reach out within 7 days of receiving your order, and we’ll find a solution that works for everyone.

💡 Did you know? Returns in the U.S. generate 5 billion pounds of landfill waste every year. Yikes. Let’s keep it circular.

Getting Involved & Support

How you can be part of our mission to put people and planet first!

How can I support Magpies & Peacocks if I’m not shopping?

So many ways! You can donate, volunteer, attend an event, share our mission, or even host a drive. Every action, big or small, helps us grow our impact.

💡 Did you know? Social sharing is one of the most powerful tools nonprofits have. Tag us, talk about us, bring us up at brunch.

Can I donate fabric or clothing?

Yes, please! We accept clean, usable materials, including fabric yardage, trims, and lightly used clothing. Reach out before donating to check current needs—we’re all about highest and best use.

💡 Did you know? Donating fabric is like giving it a second career—instead of a dead-end in the dump.

What is the MAKR Collective Training Program and how can I help?

Our MAKR Collective provides job training and creative empowerment for survivors of trauma. You can help by donating, sponsoring a participant, or spreading the word about the program and its impact.

💡 Did you know? The MAKR Collective combines therapy, creativity, and career readiness, a triple win.

Do you partner with organizations, schools or other non-profits?

Yes! We collaborate with universities, design schools, and organizations to offer creative volunteer opportunities and sustainability education, many organizations to help them achieve their sustainability goals and other non-profits to amplify a collective mission. Get in touch, we’d love to connect.

💡 Did you know? Our panels and workshops have sparked the sustainability careers of many young changemakers.

I’m a brand/designer/artist/maker, can I collaborate with you?

When we can, we love working with creatives who share our values. If you want to collaborate send us a message and let’s see if we can build something beautiful and impactful together.
